Sir William Hamilton, a well-known diplomat and archaeologist, amassed a formidable collection of Greek, Roman and Etruscan ntiquities at the end of the 18th century. These were illustrated by d'Harcanville, of which these prints are examples. Hamilton's collection is now in the British Museum in London.
