Jansen dining room chairs

Set of 6 cane, carved and painted, Louis XVI style dining room chairs. The chairs were fashioned in Atelier Jansen in Paris and are marked with the Jansen logo. The cane is stenciled with a cross hatch pattern. The seat of these chairs is wide enough for comfortable sitting.

Three piece salon set including a settee and two side chairs in the Directoire style. The set is of carved and painted wood with some applied ornamentation and gilt. The settee is 54" long and 40" tall, the seat is 16" high and the side chairs are 19" wide, 36" tall, and the seats are 19" high.

good, some areas of paint and gilt are worn; all pieces have been reupholstered and are covered in white muslin

Large Jansen leather bench/coffee table

Large bench/coffee table with painted wood frame and leather cushion and bolster. The Jansen mark is on the frame. The cushion is made of a butter-soft, luxurious, tufted, black leather. The bolster attaches by tying underneath the cushion, between the cushion and frame. The frame is painted and gilt wood with gilded rosette adornments.

French Pliant or bench

contemporary, 20th century
French, Charles X style bench or "pliant", having an upholstered seat supported by two carved crossed "X" shaped legs connected by a decoratively carved stretcher. "Pliant" is a French term for a folding stool with legs crossing, and is one of the most ancient forms of seating, still surviving in the camp stool. This form came into use in France in the late 17th cen. replacing the "Tabouret" at Court.

Louis XVI canape

Louis XVI canape made of carved and painted wood with wooden arms which are partly upholstered and an upholstered back and seat. The wood along the top of the seat has decorative carvings of leaves and the apron running along the front of the seat has carvings of both leaves and roses. The arms and legs are fluted.
